Vote no on Steve Pearce's confirmation as BLM Director. Pearce is the wrong person to oversee 245 million acres of public land.
Pearce spent 30 years trying to sell off federal lands. He attempted seven separate times in Congress to dispose of public lands, co-signed a 2012 letter calling for the government to sell its "vast land holdings," and voted to let mining companies buy BLM land below market value. He tried to shrink Organ Mountains–Desert Peaks National Monument by 92% even though 71% of voters in his own county opposed it. He was literally a founding member of the Anti-Parks Caucus.
When Senator Wyden asked if he'd changed his views on selling public lands, Pearce said "I'm not so sure that I've changed." When Hickenlooper asked him to renounce his past positions, Pearce refused and instead said he would "gladly use the help you all could provide in identifying those parcels" for sale.
Americans want our public lands clean, managed guided by science, and accessible to all of us. Pearce has spent his career doing the opposite. Vote no.
