Our country was making great strides toward energy independence, security and a healthy climate thanks to clean energy programs. Investments in renewable energy and manufacturing over the last two years resulted in the biggest boom in American manufacturing in decades, creating more than 400,000 jobs.
But federal funding cuts and freezes of clean energy programs have already caused job losses in the clean energy sector, primarily hurting working-class and rural Americans. Repeal of clean energy tax credits in the reconciliation package will only accelerate the release of climate harming air pollution, endanger jobs, stop clean energy development, and stall clean energy projects in thousands of communities across the nation.
Climate change and the pollution feeding it are threatening wildlife, habitats, and people–from dangerous pollution in our air and water impacting the health of people and wildlife, to more frequent and severe extreme weather that costs communities millions of dollars and their safety.
Investments in clean energy and sustainable fuels development, power grid expansion, clean manufacturing, and rapidly growing energy sources like solar, wind, and geothermal are lowering energy costs for people like me, reducing air pollution and associated health challenges, and cutting down on emissions that are worsening the climate crisis and fueling extreme weather.
Weakening, undoing, or otherwise disrupting clean energy investments and incentives will only serve to harm communities like mine. It’s simple. Taking away clean energy means less competition, fewer choices, and higher energy costs for American consumers. Clean energy tax credits are delivering economic, environmental, and public health benefits for all of us. I am calling on you not to upend the positive results we are seeing. Thank you.
