An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Oppose recess appointments

5 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

The Constitution grants the Senate the power to advise and consent on Cabinet nominations as part of our system of checks and balances. Allowing recess appointments for Cabinet positions would concentrate too much unilateral power in the presidency and erode this crucial separation of powers. Controversial nominees like Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Health and Human Services should face proper vetting through hearings and confirmation votes, not bypass constitutional processes. I urge you to reject any recess appointments for Cabinet roles and uphold the Senate's vital oversight role over the Executive Branch. Our democracy depends on maintaining these institutional safeguards.
