This centralized database effort is the same as surveillance initiatives in authoritarian regimes and underscores nationwide anxieties around privacy and civil liberties. AI platforms like those built by Palantir are key to pulling together vast amounts of personal data, potentially making information like political donations, governmental benefits, movements, and even firearm records a single click away for dozens of governmental agencies. This is an extraordinary threat to liberty. Critics, including activist Jason Bassler, have warned that this database is unlike previous systems because it aims to centralize unprecedented amounts of personal information across various federal agencies. This includes, but is not limited to, tax filings, student debt, Social Security, bank accounts, medical claims, and immigration status. Even supporters of President Trump have expressed anger and disbelief online and feelings of betrayal following these reports, with some stating, "TRUMP FLIPPED ON US".
