Immediately Halt the Palantir National Citizen Database Project

33 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

I urge you to oppose plans by the current administration to create a national citizen database using technology from Palantir. This initiative compiles personal information on American citizens and has drawn sharp concerns from privacy advocates and even President Trump's base. Immediately halt this project. It has severe implications for privacy, civil liberties, and the foundational principles of our democracy. This centralized database effort is the same as surveillance initiatives in authoritarian regimes and underscores nationwide anxieties around privacy and civil liberties. AI platforms like those built by Palantir are key to pulling together vast amounts of personal data, potentially making information like political donations, governmental benefits, movements, and even firearm records a single click away for dozens of governmental agencies. This is an extraordinary threat to liberty. Critics, including activist Jason Bassler, have warned that this database is unlike previous systems because it aims to centralize unprecedented amounts of personal information across various federal agencies. This includes, but is not limited to, tax filings, student debt, Social Security, bank accounts, medical claims, and immigration status. Even supporters of President Trump have expressed anger and disbelief online and feelings of betrayal following these reports, with some stating, "TRUMP FLIPPED ON US". Popular conservative figures and X users have voiced dismay, questioning if this is the "ultimate betrayal" or if "MAGA was a giant psyop". Palantir was co-founded by Peter Thiel, a major Trump donor who has publicly stated, "I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible". Thiel's vision advocates for "an escape from politics in all its forms," including democratic government, believing that tech entrepreneurs should steer the world without having to consult with anyone who doesn't look and think like them, and that technology "is not subject to democratic control". Critics like Paul Graham have stated that Palantir is "helping build the infrastructure of the police state". This project fundamentally undermines the trust between citizens and their government and poses an existential threat to civil liberties. Immediately cease all efforts to create and implement a national citizen database using Palantir or similar technologies. Prioritize the protection of American citizens' privacy and civil liberties over unchecked data collection and surveillance. Reject any initiatives that resemble surveillance initiatives in authoritarian regimes or a Social Credit System. U.S. citizens demand transparency and accountability, not a police state built on centralized dossiers of our personal lives.
