Courts have ruled more than 4,400 times since October that this administration is detaining immigrants illegally. More than 400 federal judges. Over 4,400 rulings. ICE keeps jailing people anyway, even after judges order their release. A Bush-appointed federal judge in West Virginia wrote last week that it is “appalling that the Government insists that this Court should redefine or completely disregard the current law as it is clearly written.” Two Americans have been killed by immigration agents in Minneapolis since January.
I commend the members of Congress who refused to fund this lawlessness without reform. They were right to demand that agents remove masks, show identification, and stop entering homes without proper warrants. An agency that ignores 4,400 court orders should not receive another dollar until it is brought under control. I urge you to support enforceable reforms before any additional DHS funding is approved. No exceptions.
