An open letter to the Vice President

Urge arms export reforms to protect human rights globally

30 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

The incessant spread of weapons and ammunition is fueling devastating conflicts worldwide, snuffing out countless innocent lives. It is unconscionable that we remain a major supplier enabling this unrelenting violence and human suffering. Amnesty International has rigorously documented how the indiscriminate arms trade has inflicted immense civilian casualties, from the illegal Saudi-led bombardment of Yemen to the usage of chemical weapons in Darfur. If we absolutely must engage in arms transfers, it is imperative that all nations universally adhere to stringent regulations prohibiting the infliction of war crimes and atrocities. No country should be exempt from this standard, as the perpetuation of double standards only breeds further injustice. We must reckon with the profound human toll of our current arms policies and enact comprehensive reforms to uphold our moral obligation to protect human rights and dignity.
