With the State of the Union fast approaching I’ve seen many folks demanding Democratic members boo Trump, boycott altogether, or stand and leave. While I would love and support any and all of these I understand the reluctance of members who want to retain some sense of decorum and respect for the institution. I have another suggestion that could work and retain those. If all the Democrats acted in unison to call out Trump’s lies as they occur it would act as a real time fact check and a powerful message. I am not suggesting a shrieking, or English parliment style, shouting contest, but rather a simple, matter of fact statement: “That is a lie.” The more straightforward and calm, the better. This is what Zelenskyy did in the oval office two days ago and it was profoundly effective in drawing out Trump’s clear stance on his alliance with Russia and how that stance is at odds with what the majority of this country wants and believes. The sound of 200+ voices calmly correcting the petulant child in unison would resonate for years to come.
