What you and your party are doing with the debt ceiling - or, more accurately, NOT doing - is unacceptable. Worse, it is dangerous. You are playing chicken with the full faith and credit of the United States, you are threatening a still fragile economy, you are playing with the livelihoods of American families, and you are endangering what little retirement money workers have managed to scrape together.
And all so you can “own the libs.” Oh, how very adult of you.
I know, you’re counting on us not knowing what the debt ceiling is. And I’m sure many don’t. Because God forbid you explain governing and governance to your constituents. Much better just to hand feed them a daily steaming pile of grievance and coast on that.
I, however, do know what the debt ceiling is. It’s not for new spending, it’s to pay the bills we’ve already accrued. One Congress or another passed those measures, one President or another signed them into law. Now it’s time to pay for them. Just like we working people do every month with our mortgages, car payments, and credit card bills.
So get off Twitter and do your job. Raise the debt limit. Then, hell, abolish the damn thing. The economy of this country shouldn’t be a subject of political gotcha.
You don’t like Democrats? Fine. I don’t like Republicans but I’m stuck with them as senators. Curse and insult us all you want, go on your idiotic Twitter rants against whatever your grievance of the day is. I don’t care. Just raise the debt ceiling.
Just do your goddamned job.
