As your constituent, I am urging you to protect and invest in Medicaid and Medicare—programs that are essential to the health and stability of millions of Americans.
The recently passed budget bill includes devastating cuts: $1 trillion slashed from Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act, with an additional $490 billion cut to Medicare on the horizon if Congress fails to act. These are the largest health care cuts in our nation’s history. If left in place, they will strip coverage from more than 15 million people, force rural hospitals to close, and lead to tens of thousands of preventable deaths each year.
Medicaid currently supports over 71 million Americans, and nearly 67 million rely on Medicare. These programs have strong bipartisan support because they work—they provide critical care for seniors, people with disabilities, children, and working families.
Congress must reverse course. It is unacceptable to trade away life-saving health care programs in exchange for tax breaks for the wealthy and powerful. Please take immediate steps to undo the harm caused by the recent budget bill and commit to fully protecting and funding Medicaid and Medicare in all future budget negotiations.
The health of your constituents depends on it. Please fight for all of us!
