Demand Immediate Swearing-in of Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am writing to express my deep concern and frustration regarding the delay in swearing in Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva to Congress. This unnecessary postponement is not only a deviation from precedent but also an impediment to the democratic process and the proper functioning of our government. Rep.-elect Grijalva won the special election to fill the congressional seat left vacant by her father last month. It is imperative that she be sworn in immediately to ensure full representation for her constituents. The excuse provided for the delay—waiting for the end of the federal government shutdown—is unacceptable and appears to be a thinly veiled political maneuver. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has already threatened legal action against you, Speaker Johnson, if Rep.-elect Grijalva is not formally sworn in without further delay. This threat underscores the seriousness of the situation and the potential legal consequences of your inaction. Your claim that you wish to provide Rep.-elect Grijalva with the "full ceremonial treatment" rings hollow when compared to past practices. Previous representatives in similar positions were sworn in the day after their elections, without waiting for vote certification. This inconsistency raises questions about the true motives behind the delay. Furthermore, this delay is having tangible effects on important congressional business. Rep.-elect Grijalva's signature is needed for a petition to force a vote on releasing files related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. By refusing to swear her in, you are obstructing this process and potentially hindering justice and transparency. I demand that you swear in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva immediately. Your primary duty is to serve the American people and uphold the democratic process. Any further delay will be seen as a dereliction of duty and a disservice to the constituents of Arizona's congressional district. The integrity of our democratic institutions is at stake. Act now to rectify this situation and fulfill your responsibilities as Speaker of the House. Swear in Rep.-elect Grijalva without any further delay or excuses.
