We Need Crypto Laws With Teeth That Bite

I am your constituent and I am very concerned about crypto currency and our government. Americans need strong legislation in our country enacted to rein in unprecedented levels of crypto corruption by public officials. Such legislation must have strict ethics provisions that have enforceable consequences - not just a slap on the wrist. The Trump family crypto empire has created a crisis of self-dealing and conflicts of interest that are without parallel in U.S. history and that undermine our democracy. The Trump family has already made billions of dollars on crypto; people appear to curry favor with the president by buying into Trump crypto businesses. The president is crafting legislation to regulate the industry that has generated most of his wealth; and Trump’s regulators cannot credibly oversee his crypto business or any business intertwined with Trump crypto interests. Since the recently reported ethics negotiations by Senator Gallego, regulators have approved a Trump crypto bank charter. The existing and proposed ethics language is flimsy window dressing that does not create robust, binding, and enforceable standards to hold Trump or any public official accountable for crypto corruption. The truth is that any ethics provision that President Trump approves is almost certainly not going to be strong enough to stop his crypto corruption! NO BILL is better than a bad bill that legitimizes the kind of corruption we have seen executed by the Trump family and allows highly profitable self-dealing and conflicts of interest to continue and to corrode our democracy. I know you are a champion of good government, clean politics and ethics reforms. I am counting on you to use your leadership with your fellow senators to make sure that no crypto bill passes without robust, enforceable, binding, ethical provisions. Thank you.
