Demand ICE Accountability After Fatal Shooting of Alex Pretti I am writing to demand immediate action following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse, by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday. Two sworn affidavits filed in federal court directly contradict the Trump administration's claims that Pretti brandished a weapon. A witness who filmed the shooting from five feet away testified that Pretti approached agents with a camera, not a gun, and was trying to help a woman who had been shoved to the ground. She stated that four or five agents tackled him and shot him repeatedly while he was on the ground. She explicitly contradicted the DHS statement, saying Pretti never approached agents with a gun. A second witness, a 29-year-old physician who attempted to render aid, testified that Pretti had at least three bullet wounds in his back, plus wounds to his upper left chest and possibly his neck. The physician found no pulse. Disturbingly, instead of performing CPR, the officers appeared to be counting bullet wounds. These sworn testimonies directly contradict claims by the president, the homeland security secretary, and border patrol commander Greg Bovino, who called Pretti a gunman who threatened to massacre officers. The evidence shows an unarmed man trying to help another civilian was shot multiple times in the back by federal agents. This killing represents a fundamental breakdown in accountability and use of force standards. An intensive care nurse who dedicated his career to saving lives was killed while documenting federal activities in his own community. When senior administration officials immediately misrepresent the circumstances of a fatal shooting, it demonstrates a culture that prioritizes justification over truth. I urge you to demand a full independent investigation into this shooting, call for the suspension of the agents involved, and support legislation to fundamentally reform ICE operations and accountability mechanisms. No constituent should fear being shot in the back by federal agents while exercising their constitutional rights.
