An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Enact strong data privacy protections against exploitative practices

8 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

The quiet withdrawal of proposed rules aimed at protecting Americans from harmful data broker practices is deeply concerning. These companies operate a vast industry built on collecting and selling highly sensitive personal information without consent, posing risks to individual privacy, national security, and public safety. Allowing data brokers to continue exploiting this lack of regulation threatens to enable scams, fraud, stalking, and even violence against vulnerable groups like domestic abuse survivors and military personnel. Failing to rein in commercial surveillance undermines core democratic values. Robust data privacy measures are urgently needed to safeguard fundamental rights and hold these unaccountable corporations responsible for their reckless mishandling of our personal data. The administration must reverse course and enact strong protections to defend the American people from predatory data practices.
