Expand Harm Reduction Funding. We need to stop repeating the failed war on people who use drugs and actually fund what works. Our Harm Reduction programs are the most effective way of helping people who use drugs, the cheapest, and drastically underfunded. Prop 36 will increase the overdose rate so we need to double down on what actually works rather than cutting it. Hugs swaths of the state lack harm reduction programs and we need to invest in them. Just look at the Naloxone Distribution Projects numbers on how effective these programs are. Law enforcement can't even remotely compete and they aren't held to anything close to the same standards of evidence. We shouldn't be putting money into them if they can't even prove they are effective.
