Demand for Accountability and Transparency in ICE Operations

I am writing to express my deep concern over reports that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been conducting raids while wearing face coverings and refusing to identify themselves. This practice is not about safety—it is about avoiding accountability and concealing the shame of targeting immigrant families.
In recent months, ICE agents have carried out masked operations in communities from Los Angeles to Massachusetts. These raids, conducted without visible identification, have left residents terrified and uncertain whether the individuals forcibly entering homes were legitimate law enforcement or something more sinister. Such tactics are reminiscent of authoritarian regimes, not the practices of a government committed to democracy and civil rights.
I urge you to support the VISIBLE Act, introduced by Senators Padilla and Booker, which requires federal agents to display clear identification and limits the use of masks during enforcement. I also call on you to demand immediate investigations into ICE practices and to ensure no agency is allowed to operate in the shadows.
When government agents feel compelled to hide their faces, it tells us something: they know these actions will not stand up to public scrutiny. If they are ashamed to be seen, perhaps Congress should question whether these operations should be happening at all.
Please take urgent action to restore transparency, uphold civil liberties, and hold ICE accountable for practices that undermine public trust.
