Support Lt. Gov. Henderson's Call for Dignity in Political Discourse

I am writing to express my strong support for Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson's recent comments on the importance of dignity in political discourse. During a panel discussion at the University of Utah's Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, Lt. Gov. Henderson courageously criticized certain tactics employed by our state Republican party and praised Governor Spencer Cox for his leadership in not conforming to divisive national trends. In light of recent events, including the tragic assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, it is more crucial than ever that we heed Governor Cox's call to "disagree better." The panel's focus on maintaining respect and dignity in political disagreements aligns perfectly with the values we should be upholding in Utah and across the nation. I am particularly impressed by Lt. Gov. Henderson's personal rule of refraining from making mean-spirited comments, even if they might feel satisfying in the moment. This level of self-awareness and commitment to civility is exactly what we need from our leaders. Additionally, the involvement of Tim Shriver, chairman of the Special Olympics and creator of the Dignity Index, underscores the universal importance of addressing political differences without resorting to hate or violence. I urge you to publicly support and amplify the messages shared by Lt. Gov. Henderson and Gov. Cox. Their stance on political discourse is not just admirable; it's essential for the health of our democracy. As my representative, I ask that you: 1. Issue a statement endorsing the principles of dignified political discourse as outlined by Lt. Gov. Henderson and Gov. Cox. 2. Advocate for the implementation of the Dignity Index or similar tools in our state's political processes. 3. Oppose efforts that undermine voter-approved measures, such as the redistricting law, which go against the principles of fair and respectful democratic engagement. By taking these actions, you will be contributing to a political environment that values transparency, honesty, and mutual respect. This is not just about political civility; it's about safeguarding our democratic institutions and ensuring that Utah leads by example in fostering constructive political dialogue. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to seeing how you will support and advance these principles of dignity in our state's political discourse.
