The Department of Education is Being Destroyed—You’re Letting it Happen
40 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
I write to you today out of growing outrage over the systematic dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education.
Our children, teachers, and communities deserve an agency that defends public education, protects civil rights, and advances opportunity—not one being gutted, politicized, or hijacked to serve narrow ideologies. Recent actions and appointments signal a clear and dangerous intent: to destroy public education as we know it.
From nominating individuals with no meaningful experience in education, to undermining protections for vulnerable students, to rolling back student loan relief and weaponizing curriculum debates—this is not reform, it is sabotage. And it is happening on your watch.
We are watching you.
We will not quietly accept the replacement of educational leadership with unqualified political operatives. We will not tolerate the rollback of Title IX or attempts to whitewash history in classrooms. And we absolutely reject any agenda that seeks to funnel taxpayer dollars to unregulated private schools while starving our public system.
The Department of Education was created to ensure equity, access, and quality for all students—not to be used as a pawn in a culture war or a piggy bank for privatizers.
I implore you to:
• Publicly oppose the nomination of unqualified, extremist candidates to key education roles.
• Protect and expand funding for public education and student support services.
• Defend the civil rights of all students, especially those most vulnerable.
• Fight any attempt to abolish or defund the Department of Education.
• Demand accountability and transparency for student loan management and forgiveness.
Your constituents are paying attention. You are being judged not just by your words but by your votes, your silence, and your complicity.
Do the right thing. Stand up for public education. Stand up for our children.
