I am writing to urge you to take action to prevent the United States from defaulting on its debt. As a concerned citizen, I believe the defaulting on our debt would have catastrophic consequences for our economy and for the financial well-being of millions of Americans. According to Treasury secretary, Janet Yellen, if the United States were the default on its debt, it could result in spikes in interest rates, steep drops in stock prices, millions of job losses, and downgraded credit rating. This would reverse our current economic recovery into recession and resultant billions of dollars of growth and millions of jobs lost. Please do everything in your power to ensure that the debt ceiling is raised in a timely and responsible manner. Our country's future depends on it.
