The Pentagon’s independent watchdog has received evidence that messages from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s Signal account previewing a US bombing campaign in Yemen were derived from a classified email labeled “SECRET/NOFORN.”
The strike plans had been shared in a classified email with more than a dozen defense officials by the top commander overseeing US military operations in the Middle East.
They were then posted in the unclassified group chats by an account affiliated with Hegseth shortly before the US bombed Yemen.
The “SECRET” means information was classified at a level at which unauthorized disclosure could be expected to cause serious damage to national security.
Apparently the Pentagon needs to review the meaning of SECRET.
