Defend transgender healthcare access - lives are at stake!
It is vital that we protect the rights and healthcare access of transgender individuals. A ban on federal funding for gender-affirming care would have devastating consequences, leading to lost medical treatment, forced menopause for some who lose access to hormones, and tragically, an elevated risk of suicide in the trans community. This medically-necessary care is backed by extensive evidence demonstrating its importance for the health and wellbeing of trans people. Hospitals and healthcare systems may be forced to discontinue this specialized care if faced with losing federal funds, jeopardizing access for countless Americans. We cannot allow ideology to supersede sound medical guidance and human rights. Denying evidence-based care threatens lives and compounds the marginalization of an already vulnerable population. As such, any attempt to restrict federal funding for gender-affirming healthcare must be staunchly opposed in order to uphold the basic rights and dignity of transgender people in this country. Doing otherwise would be an unacceptable dereliction with potentially catastrophic human costs.
