Oppose the executive order suspending Russia sanctions that Congress passed and a president signed into law just months ago. This is not a policy disagreement. It is a president overriding a bipartisan act of Congress to benefit Vladimir Putin, two days before those sanctions were set to take effect.
The law gave broad powers to levy tariffs of up to 100% on top buyers of Russian oil and gas, sanction senior Russian officials including Putin himself, and target the shadow fleet Russia uses to dodge existing embargoes. A 60-day pause guts all of that. Meanwhile, Russia struck 15 Ukrainian energy facilities in a single night, killing and injuring dozens of civilians across the country. Suspending these sanctions does not serve American interests. It funds a war.
Even Ted Cruz and John Cornyn called this a mistake. Thom Tillis called it "beyond irresponsible." This is not a partisan fight. Congress acted, and that action is being unilaterally dismantled for midterm political cover. Push back. Restore these sanctions and make clear that no executive order can simply erase what Congress has put into law.
