An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect taxpayer privacy, stop IRS-immigration data sharing

5 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

The sharing of tax data between the IRS and immigration authorities raises serious privacy concerns and could undermine public trust in the tax system. Law-abiding taxpayers should not have their confidential information disseminated to other agencies without justification. This policy seems misguided, as it is unlikely to effectively target criminal behavior but will likely deter many immigrants from properly paying taxes out of fear. I urge you to reconsider this agreement and uphold the privacy rights of all taxpayers. The potential loss of tax revenue and erosion of faith in the system outweighs any purported benefits of this data sharing.
