Congress created TPS —Congress must stop Trump’s deportation machine

I’m your constituent, and I’m asking you to act now to protect people living here under Temporary Protected Status — including Haitians, Salvadorans, Syrians, Venezuelans, and others whose countries are in crisis, disaster, or have been destabilized in part by U.S. actions. The Supreme Court has cleared the way for the Trump administration to end TPS, putting hundreds of thousands of people at risk of losing lawful status, work authorization, and their ability to stay with their families. That means it’s now on Congress to prevent mass harm. TPS holders fled war, state collapse, gangs, political persecution, and climate‑fueled disasters — often made worse by decades of U.S. policy. They’ve lived and worked here legally for years, paid taxes, started businesses, staffed hospitals and care facilities, and raised U.S. citizen kids. Deporting them now is a conscious policy choice to separate families and send long‑time neighbors back into danger. The House has already passed bipartisan legislation to extend protections and work authorization for Haitian TPS holders and shield hundreds of thousands of people from deportation. The Senate still hasn’t acted. Every week of inaction deepens fear and instability in communities that have done everything we’ve asked of them. I’m asking you to: 1. Publicly support and cosponsor strong legislation that extends and expands protections and work authorization for all current TPS holders, including Haitians, Salvadorans, Syrians, and Venezuelans. 2. Push your chamber’s leadership for an immediate vote and oppose efforts to weaken protections or exclude specific nationalities. 3. Urge DHS to use every available tool to defer deportations, renew work authorization, and keep families together while Congress acts. TPS holders are nurses, caregivers, farmworkers, engineers, teachers, small‑business owners, ministry leaders, neighbors, and family. Stripping them of status will damage local economies, disrupt employers, and traumatize U.S. citizen children. Congress created TPS. Now Congress needs to pass a real, durable solution that lets long‑term TPS holders stay with stability, dignity, and a path to permanent status.
