As your constituent, I urge you to reject attacks on Congressionally-approved funding for communities and vote against the rescissions package before you this week. This request comes after the Trump administration has already blocked or withheld an estimated $425 billion from local communities—and a yes vote threatens important resources for communities like mine.
A vote for the rescissions package will “rubber stamp” the administration’s moves to block or withhold funding for programs here and across the country. For example, the U.S. Department of Education recently announced that it was withholding nearly $7 billion in FY2025 public education and children’s program funding, impacting students, educators, and families in every state and school district across the country after Congress approved, and President Trump signed into law, FY2025 funding for students and classrooms along with after-school and summer programs.
Congressional approval of this recissions package would not only harm specific programs and the people they serve, but also undermine any bipartisan agreements made during the appropriations process, meaning these agreements aren’t as good as the paper they’re written on. The specific cuts here, including those to public broadcasting, are harmful and you should reject them. It is also extremely important to reject the precedent of undermining bipartisan Congressional agreement on appropriations.
We can’t afford any more attacks on critical community programs approved by Congress. I urge you and your colleagues to reject the recissions package.
Thank you.
