An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives
Zach Nunn: Listen To Iowan’s and Stop Defending the BBB.
1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am deeply concerned about your repeated claims that the One Big Beautiful Bill (BBB) is a major win and broadly supported by Iowans. Independent fact-checks and polling prove the opposite.
Energy Independence
The BBB does not lower costs for Iowans. It revives fossil fuel subsidies, delays clean-energy progress, and independent reviews show households may face higher energy costs, not savings.
Border Security
Billions more for detention, ICE, and wall construction expand bureaucracy but do not guarantee a safer or “stronger” border. Claiming otherwise misrepresents the reality of these provisions.
Tax Relief
The bill’s biggest benefits go to corporations and the wealthy. Cuts to Medicaid and food assistance will hurt working Iowans, and the deficit will rise by $3.4 trillion over the next decade.
Public Opinion
Contrary to your statements, polling shows strong opposition:
• 61% of Americans oppose the BBB (CNN/Politico).
• 55% oppose, only 29% support (TIME, Quinnipiac).
• 64% view it unfavorably (KFF).
• Independents oppose it 69% to 30% (CNN analysis). Advocacy groups in Iowa—including Common Good Iowa—have openly opposed it as well.
These are not partisan numbers—they represent the broad reality of how constituents and Americans see the BBB.
A Direct Request
I urge you to look at the reality of what your constituents think and respond to their concerns, rather than repeating biased talking points. Iowans deserve honest representation, not slogans that misrepresent the facts.
I am specifically requesting a written response to explain:
1 How you will take action according to what your constituents are clearly asking for.
2 How you will adjust your messaging to reflect the reality of broad opposition to the BBB.
Please stop parroting misleading claims and instead engage openly with Iowa families, farmers, and small businesses who are calling for real solutions.
