No New ICE Funding Without Oversight And Transparency

I am writing as your constituent to urge you to oppose any reconciliation bill, appropriations bill, or other measure that provides new funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), or Border Patrol.
Congress should not approve additional funding until it receives a full accounting of how previously appropriated funds are being spent and whether current policies are contributing to deaths in custody, medical neglect, or unsafe detention conditions.
CONGRESS SHOULD NOT WRITE ANOTHER BLANK CHECK
Congress has already appropriated extraordinary sums for immigration enforcement, detention, and deportation operations. Public reporting indicates that Congress has provided roughly $170 billion in recent funding, while proposals under consideration would add nearly $70 billion more. Before additional money is approved, Congress should determine whether existing funds are being used effectively, lawfully, and safely.
ACCOUNTABILITY MUST COME BEFORE EXPANSION
Credible reports continue to describe deaths in custody, medical neglect allegations, unsafe detention conditions, and inadequate oversight. Congress should not expand detention capacity, increase enforcement operations, or authorize new spending until these concerns have been thoroughly investigated and addressed.
UNOBLIGATED FUNDS MUST BE REVIEWED FIRST
If ICE and CBP still possess substantial unobligated balances from prior appropriations, Congress should not provide additional enforcement funding until those funds are audited, justified, and conditioned on enforceable safeguards. Taxpayers deserve to know how existing funds are being spent before Congress considers appropriating more.
CONGRESS HAS THE TOOLS TO ACT NOW
Responsible congressional oversight requires ensuring that taxpayer funds are used lawfully, safely, and transparently. Congress should insist on meaningful oversight before approving additional funding for detention expansion, expanded raids, deportation sweeps, or private detention contracts.
I urge you to take the following actions:
(1) VOTE NO. Vote NO on any reconciliation or appropriations measure that provides new ICE, CBP, or Border Patrol funding unless it includes enforceable safeguards, transparency requirements, and independent oversight.
(2) INVESTIGATE. Support Government Accountability Office (GAO) reviews, Inspector General investigations, and public reporting requirements concerning deaths in custody, medical care, detention conditions, and the use of previously appropriated funds.
(3) FREEZE FUNDS. Support rescission authority, obligation freezes, or reprogramming restrictions to prevent unobligated funds from being used for detention expansion, expanded raids, or deportation sweeps until Congress completes appropriate oversight.
(4) REQUIRE REPORTING. Require regular public reporting regarding deaths in custody, medical neglect allegations, use-of-force incidents, contractor payments, and unobligated balances before any additional taxpayer funds are released.
Thank you.
