Resistbot Petition: Pass Supreme Court Ethics Act

An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Pass Supreme Court Ethics Act

The past week’s Supreme Court decision on affirmative action and LGBTQ rights were disastrous. “It’s a further reminder that this is an illegitimate and corrupt court, several of whose members have been bought and paid for by the Federalist Society and its billionaire backers.” (Craven,6/29). We must pass the Supreme Court Ethics Act (S. 325/H.R. 927), which would ensure that SCOTUS is held to the highest ethical standards and would go a long way in restoring faith in the institution which is at an ALL-TIME low (only 35% approval, Quinnipiac). “This legislation shouldn’t be necessary but the repeated refusal of Chief Justice Roberts, and the rest of the court, to adopt rules binding themselves to the Code of Conduct for U.S. Judges leaves Congress with little choice but to act. The Code and its canons are an ethical guidebook for judges at every other level of the Federal Judiciary. Our nation's highest court should hot have the lowest ethical standards.” (Arn Pearson, Common Cause) We need court expansion, term limits, and a Code of Ethics for what’s become a renegade, partisan and extremist court. Support all of it!
