This is Racial Profiling, not Enforcement - End ICE Arrests

I am writing as your constituent deeply alarmed by recent ICE activity described in the Guardian on June 26, 2025. The article highlights agents raiding homes in immigrant communities—often detaining individuals without criminal records or due process . These operations represent a disturbing trend of racially targeted enforcement with devastating consequences.
According to TRAC, as of June 15, 2025, 56,397 individuals are detained by ICE. Remarkably, 71.7% have no criminal record . Comparable data shows that nearly half (47%) of currently detained immigrants lack any criminal history, with fewer than 30% ever convicted. More starkly, from October 2024 to June 2025, 65% of the 204,297 ICE book-ins had no convictions and 93% had no violent convictions.
Despite administration rhetoric, CNN analysis found fewer than 10% of detainees had violent crime convictions, while over 75% had no convictions beyond traffic or immigration violations.
Beyond statistics, there are documented cases of U.S. citizens—African American, Latino, and Indigenous—being wrongfully detained, sometimes for days or even months. This is not just policy failure; it is a rights crisis.
I urge you to advocate for:
1. Immediate suspension of all ICE raids and arrests without credible evidence.
2. Passage of legislation to defund ICE operations targeting nonviolent individuals.
3. Mandatory due-process protections for all detained persons—immigrant or citizen.
4. Establishment of an independent oversight body empowered to investigate abuse in ICE detention.
These actions are essential to restore trust in law enforcement and protect vulnerable communities from racialized violence. There is simply no justification for expanding detentions of law-abiding immigrants or terrified citizens who become collateral. Our values demand better.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your support.
