Oppose the SAVE Act as Voter Suppression Legislation

I am writing to urge you to oppose the SAVE America Act, which recently passed the House and is now before the Senate. Despite being framed as election security legislation, this bill is a voter suppression measure that will create unnecessary barriers to voting for eligible citizens.
The SAVE Act is not an election security bill. It is a voter suppression bill designed to make voting more difficult for Americans who already face challenges accessing identification documents. Critics have identified this legislation as particularly harmful to Black voters and other communities who disproportionately lack the specific forms of identification this bill would require.
Our current election system already has robust safeguards in place. Noncitizen voting is extremely rare and already illegal under federal law. This legislation solves a problem that does not exist while creating real obstacles for legitimate voters. Millions of Americans, including elderly citizens, low-income individuals, and people in rural areas, face significant challenges obtaining the documentation this bill would mandate.
The right to vote is fundamental to our democracy. Any legislation that makes it harder for eligible citizens to exercise this right undermines the principles our nation was founded upon. Rather than erecting new barriers, we should be working to ensure every eligible voter can participate easily and securely in our elections.
I ask that you vote against the SAVE Act when it comes before the Senate. This legislation prioritizes political messaging over the voting rights of your constituents. Our democracy is strengthened when more eligible citizens participate, not when we create unnecessary hurdles that prevent them from casting their ballots.
Your constituents deserve a representative who will protect their right to vote rather than support legislation that restricts it. I urge you to stand against this voter suppression measure.
