A Dangerous Threat to Citizenship
I urge you to take immediate action regarding the Department of Justice’s alarming denaturalization directive issued June 11, 2025. This policy marks a dangerous shift, threatening the stability and security of citizenship for naturalized Americans.
Category 10: Open-Ended Government Overreach
The directive outlines ten priority categories for denaturalization. Most disturbing is Category 10, which allows the DOJ to pursue “any other cases” it deems important. This sweeping, undefined authority invites political abuse, unequal treatment, and erosion of basic rights.
A Civil Process Without Due Process
These are civil, not criminal, proceedings. Targets do not have the right to a court-appointed attorney, and the burden of proof is far lower than in criminal cases. This means citizenship can now be revoked more easily—based on subjective or shifting criteria.
The Scope: 25 Million at Risk
This directive affects up to 25 million naturalized Americans. It turns them into second-class citizens whose rights are no longer permanent but conditional. The foundational promise of U.S. citizenship is now under threat.
Congress Must Act Now
I urge you to
• Publicly oppose this directive
• Demand immediate hearings on its legality and civil rights impact
• Support legislation to prevent a two-tiered citizenship system and protect due process for all Americans
Defend the American Promise
This directive undermines American values of fairness, equality, and stability. Congress must act swiftly to stop this dangerous overreach.
