An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Fiscal Responsibility in Name Only

3 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am writing to express my growing frustration with the repeated claims you make about opposing increased government spending—claims that are completely contradicted by your actions in office. You and your colleagues frequently campaign on “fiscal responsibility,” yet when it comes time to govern, you consistently support policies that expand government, increase spending, and balloon the deficit. The rhetoric is familiar. The results are not. A recent and glaring example is the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Despite its carefully chosen name, DOGE has not reduced federal spending. It has done the opposite. It created new programs, new administrative overhead, and new costs, all while failing to deliver meaningful reductions elsewhere. Establishing a new government entity to supposedly shrink government is either intellectually dishonest or grossly incompetent—possibly both. The same deception applies to the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” This legislation dramatically increases federal spending and adds trillions of dollars to the national deficit, yet it was promoted as a responsible or even conservative measure. There is nothing fiscally conservative about deficit-financed spending on this scale. Calling it otherwise is an insult to anyone paying attention. At what point are constituents supposed to stop believing the talking points and start believing the voting record? Because the record is clear: when faced with real choices, you choose higher spending, larger government, and deeper debt—every time. If you truly oppose runaway government spending, then stop voting for it. If you do not, then stop pretending you do. I expect a direct answer explaining why your words and your actions are so consistently at odds.
