John Thune was right to decline Trump's pressure, and every Republican senator should back him up publicly. The Senate's rules exist to protect the minority and maintain order. When a president publicly attacks a nonpartisan staffer on social media and privately lobbies to have her fired over a ballroom project, that's not governance — it's intimidation. Stand firm, reject any move to remove MacDonough, and make clear that the Senate's independence is not for sale.
