An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures

Restore All Prisoners Voting Rights

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Restore all prisoners voting rights. Nobody should ever have their right to vote denied for any reason. Prisoners originally had the right to vote stripped from them as part of Jim Crow to disenfranchise marginalized people. We still disproportionately imprison marginalized people. This is a racist practice, with racist roots, that runs counter to the ideals of democracy. Cutting people off from participating in society increases recidivism. How can any society that disenfranchises it's citizens of any category for any reason call itself a true democracy?
