An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Vote NO on KOSA which threatens online freedom

The proposed Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) poses a serious threat to online freedom of expression and access to vital resources for marginalized communities, particularly LGBTQ+ youth and those seeking reproductive healthcare information. While concerns about the impact of technology on young people are valid, KOSA's approach is misguided and will likely result in harmful censorship and invasive surveillance. Instead of enabling censorship that disproportionately impacts vulnerable groups, Congress should prioritize comprehensive data privacy legislation that protects all internet users, especially children, from abusive data practices by tech companies. Additionally, measures should be taken to safeguard online communities that provide crucial support and resources for LGBTQ+ and other marginalized youth. I urge you to reject KOSA in its current form and work towards solutions that truly protect children's safety and wellbeing online without compromising free speech or endangering marginalized communities. A free and open internet is essential for access to information, community-building, and the exchange of ideas. KOSA undermines these fundamental principles and puts already vulnerable groups at further risk.
