An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Reject biased spending bill, demand clean continuing resolution

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

This continuing resolution (H.R. 1968) proposed by the House is not a clean extension of current federal spending levels. It includes $13 billion in cuts to vital domestic programs while increasing defense spending by $6 billion. The bill also grants the administration broad powers to bypass Congressional oversight on spending and prevents legislators from terminating the President's unilateral trade actions. These unbalanced cuts and expansions of executive authority are unacceptable. A clean, straightforward continuing resolution maintaining current spending levels across all federal agencies is needed to keep the government operating while allowing the full appropriations process to proceed. Voting no on cloture and the underlying bill itself is necessary to reject these partisan riders and demand a truly neutral stopgap measure that does not make drastic changes. Responsible governance requires an open negotiation on sustainable long-term funding priorities, not hurried provisions that disproportionately impact domestic programs serving vulnerable populations.
