The push to change Nebraska's electoral vote system to a winner-take-all model is deeply concerning. Awarding all five of our state's electoral votes to a single candidate, regardless of the will of voters in specific congressional districts, would disenfranchise thousands of Nebraskans and undermine the democratic principles our nation was founded upon. The current system, while imperfect, at least allows the reasoned voices of Nebraskans across the state to be heard through their electoral votes. A winner-take-all model, on the other hand, would render large portions of our state effectively voiceless in presidential elections. This is antithetical to the ideal of a government deriving its power from the consent of the governed. Moreover, changing the rules governing elections so close to the start of voting raises serious ethical and legal concerns. The rules should remain stable and predictable to ensure a free and fair election process. Altering them now for apparent partisan gain breeds further mistrust and division. I urge you to reject this ill-conceived push for winner-take-all electoral votes. Stand firm in protecting every Nebraskan's voice and right to meaningful representation in choosing our nation's leader. The integrity of our democracy depends on resisting such cynical power grabs.
