I strongly support Senator Cruz’s proposed legislation to limit congressional terms. Public service shouldn’t be a lifelong career, and term limits would bring fresh perspectives into the legislative process.
In the past decade, it’s become clear that many of our older leaders struggle to understand how technology works, especially when it comes to the internet and AI. This disconnect can hinder their ability to address the concerns of younger generations who are directly impacted by these advances.
If we don’t have term limits, we should require continuing education like we do for childcare providers and teachers. Take Don Beyer, a 73-year-old congressman, who enrolled in classes at George Mason University to earn a master's degree in machine learning to better understand AI and its implications.
That said, term limits would encourage lawmakers to stay focused on the needs of their constituents and bring in fresh voices more in tune with today’s rapidly changing world.
Term limits are essential for renewing democracy and creating a culture of accountability. It’s time to empower a new generation of leaders, and I urge everyone to support this legislation.
