D-Day. An important day in world history. Unfortunately the significance and solemnity of the day is lost in the reality show that is American politics.
Trump vs Musk. Trump vs Springsteen. Who said what? Breathless media coverage. No surprise. Ho hum.
Here’s the other stuff that we should maybe pay more attention to…
Trump tells the German Chancellor that D-Day must have been a sad day for Germany.
Russia and Ukraine conflict resolution going nowhere. Trump wants to let them duke it out. He’s bored. And doesn’t really care who wins as long as it’s Putin.
Meanwhile the German Chancellor is dismayed that senators don’t have a clue the degree of a Russian rearmament going on.
Russia has shifted defense plants to round-the-clock production and signed arms deals with North Korea and Iran. The EU is warning that Moscow could soon be in a position to attack NATO territory.
And the administration continues to show they are not up to their jobs…
Kristi Noem released a list of sanctuary jurisdictions. But it was full of errors, and identified MAGA strongholds on the list. Outrage from same resulted in pulling the list.
And just before that fiasco, this…”Thanks to our ICE officers an illegal alien who threatened to assassinate President Trump is behind bars.” The statement included a photo of the alleged would-be assassin and one of the letters he was accused of writing, which said, “We are tired of this president messing with us Mexicans.” But it was all a fake.
RFK Jr. went to the WH and released his MAHA report full of citations of studies that don’t exist, the product of AI hallucinations.
“Liberation Day” tariff rollout, which targeted an island full of penguins and other unpopulated or sparsely populated corners of the globe — and raised taxes on most of the world based on a math error.
Other mistakes include sharing war plans with a journalist, deporting people protected by court order, starting a fight with Harvard, firing and then attempting to rehire thousands of crucial federal workers (most of whom are saying no thanks), cancelling and then reinstating various vital government functions, and misstating, aka hallucinating, alleged savings from cost-cutting attempts.
Education Sec. Linda McMahon didn’t seem to know what the Tulsa race massacre was. She drew a blank on Ruby Bridges, the first Black child to integrate schools in the South. She testified about savings of $1T that would come from eliminating a program to help poor kids attend college (actual amount: $12B) and she flubbed a question about where American schoolchildren ranked on tests of math and reading.
FEMA director, David Richardson seemed unaware of hurricane season. Thank goodness he was only joking.
This is only a small sampling of what we call leadership these days.
Are we sure Elon Musk is the only one on drugs?
