Don’t reinstate the $2,000 Medi-Cal asset limit!

Please do not reinstate the harmful Medi-Cal asset limit for older adults and people with disabilities. California is in a cost-of-living crisis, and forcing older adults and people with disabilities to only have $2,000 in savings in order to maintain Medi-Cal coverage is irreconcilable with the priorities of the Legislature and Administration. This proposal is punitive and unfairly targets older adults and people with disabilities on Medi-Cal – no other group on Medi-Cal will have an asset limit. A $2,000 asset limit will force older adults and people with disabilities to live in deep poverty in order to access essential care, and terminate coverage for 112,000 current Medi-Cal memberswho have been able to accrue minimal resources. This is unacceptable. I also strongly oppose the proposed budget cuts that would reduce access to health care and long-term care for undocumented immigrants, and limit essential overtime care under In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS). These changes threaten the health, dignity, and economic stability of some of California’s most vulnerable residents. I urge the state to pursue revenue solutions, not cuts, to protect and strengthen the safety net. Going after our poor and weak is flat out evil.
