An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Immediate Action Needed to Protect Medical Personnel and Patients in Gaza

28 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

I am writing to urge you to take immediate and decisive action to protect the lives and rights of medical personnel and patients in Gaza, particularly those affected by the recent detention of Dr. Abu Safiya and other medical staff at Kamal Adwan Hospital. This facility, vital to the care of the sick and injured in northern Gaza, has been forcibly evacuated and rendered nonfunctional amidst an already devastating humanitarian crisis. Reports from the BBC and other reliable sources paint a grim picture of escalating violations of international humanitarian law, including the targeting of medical personnel and infrastructure. The forced evacuation of Kamal Adwan Hospital has left countless civilians—many of them children—without access to essential medical care. Additionally, the detention of healthcare workers like Dr. Abu Safiya and their patients is an unconscionable act that undermines the most basic principles of human rights and medical neutrality. As a global leader committed to upholding justice and international law, the United States has a moral and political obligation to intervene. I urge you to use your influence and authority to: 1 Demand the immediate release of Dr. Abu Safiya and other detained medical personnel and patients. Their freedom is critical to restoring medical services to the people of northern Gaza. 2 Insist that Kamal Adwan Hospital be reopened. This includes ensuring the safe return of its staff and providing the necessary aid and supplies to resume lifesaving operations. 3 Take steps to prevent further targeting of medical facilities and personnel. Strong diplomatic pressure and concrete actions are necessary to uphold international law and protect vulnerable civilians. The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached unprecedented levels of suffering, and inaction is not an option. The targeting of medical institutions and personnel violates the Geneva Conventions and the fundamental principles of human decency. Your immediate action can help to alleviate this crisis and demonstrate that the United States stands firmly for the protection of human rights and the sanctity of life. The world is watching. The lives of countless innocent civilians hang in the balance. I implore you to act now. Sources: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c77jy3epm25o https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cj30deeggd7o
