Urgent: Condemnation of White House's Violation of Press Freedom
I’m beyond outraged at the White House’s decision to bar an Associated Press reporter from an Oval Office event simply because AP refused to comply with its ridiculous demand to call the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America." This is a direct attack on the First Amendment, and it should concern every American—regardless of party.
The press isn’t supposed to be a mouthpiece for the government. That’s not how this country works. The fact that an administration is trying to control media language and punish journalists for doing their jobs should alarm anyone who cares about freedom. The First Amendment exists precisely to prevent this kind of government overreach.
I expect you to take a stand against this blatant attempt to control the press. That means:
1. Calling this out for what it is—an attack on press freedom.
2. Supporting any congressional efforts to investigate this abuse of power.
3. Making it clear that no administration, Republican or Democrat, gets to dictate how the p ress reports the news.
This isn’t a partisan issue; it’s an American one. If we let this slide, what’s next? I hope to see you speak out against this, and I’ll be paying attention.
