Stop government censorship, protect free speech!

It is absolutely unacceptable that FCC Chair Carr abused his position to cancel “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” following comments about the Charlie Kirk tragedy. The FCC’s open threats and resulting broadcast censorship not only undermine trust in government neutrality but set a chilling precedent for political speech and artistic expression. Kimmel’s monologue accurately observed that certain MAGA figures were exploiting a horrific tragedy for political purposes. No segment violated FCC standards of decency or broadcast law. The abrupt decision to pull the show, apparently under threat of license revocation, weaponizes regulatory power against dissent and erases the distinction between factual critique and state-imposed censorship. Meanwhile, extreme voices on the right continue to spew vile propaganda unfettered. If there are any statements that deserve a second look, they would include those that promote the government murdering homeless people, for example. This is not simply about one TV show: it is about whether the First Amendment can survive in an environment where government appointees demand the silencing of satire and dissent, while selectively ignoring far more extreme rhetoric from right-wing broadcasters. It is alarming to see principles that were foundational to our country—inclusive of robust speech and debate—cast aside for perceived political expediency. As Benjamin Franklin observed, we live in “a republic—if you can keep it.” Our leaders must act to keep it. I urge you to: Speak out publicly against FCC-driven censorship and defend the First Amendment rights of all Americans, including critics of the current administration. Advocate for a Congressional inquiry into the FCC’s recent actions and protect against political abuse of regulatory bodies. Work to uphold standards of fairness, transparency, and genuine accountability across the media landscape, regardless of viewpoint. The nation is watching to see if its elected representatives will defend fundamental freedoms at this watershed moment. Please stand with history—and with democracy. I appreciate your attention to this issue, and will be watching hopefully for your efforts to keep our republic.
