Outlaw physically harming protesters. The time has come to allow folks the entirety of their 1st amendment rights. Let them hang out, yell, stop traffic, Occupy public spaces, block entrances, etc. There simply is nothing more important than having full 1st Amendment Rights, and there is no amount of state violence that is acceptable against protesters. For emergency and health services allowing a slowly forming shield wall is a decent compromise, but the use of batons, chemical weapons, fire, high water pressure, horses, dogs, injurious sound, and so many other physically damaging violence is unacceptable. It makes the state look like pathetic emotional bullies, escalates tensions between the government and the governed, and prevents the free discourse between the people and the politician. It is time to outlaw kettling, the disgusting practice of surrounding folks, causing panic, demanding they leave and leaving them no way to escape. Assaulting people isn’t right, and state sanctioned assault is no exception. Police that harm people, outside of Good Samaritan laws, should not be protected by the state from the consequences of their actions. When they commit assault, manslaughter, murder, rape, or any other violent crime; it is your responsibility to make sure they repay society for their amoral violent crimes.
