An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Demand Accountability: No U.S. Role in Inhumane Imprisonment Abroad

59 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!

I write with deep concern and outrage: how could the United States, under any circumstances, allow the transfer of any individual—especially someone legally present in this country—to a foreign prison known for inhumane conditions? Regardless of guilt or innocence, our nation should never be complicit in sending anyone to a facility where basic human rights are violated. These practices not only undermine our values and international standing, but they raise grave legal and moral questions. If this happened in error, then accountability and immediate safeguards are essential. If it was deliberate, it demands urgent investigation. I ask you plainly: • How could this happen under our watch? • Who authorized or failed to prevent such a decision? • What will you do to ensure it never happens again? The U.S. must stand firmly against torture and mistreatment—anywhere. Congress must act swiftly to demand answers and restore the rule of law.
