Urgent reform needed at Krome Detention Center amid inhumane conditions

The viral TikTok videos exposing the inhumane conditions at the Krome Detention Center are deeply concerning. The footage reveals detainees sleeping on floors and chairs due to overcrowding, raising serious questions about their treatment and wellbeing. Prolonged detention in such unsafe environments puts migrants at severe risk of illness, abuse, and even death - a legal and moral failure that directly implicates the government. Since the implementation of restrictive immigration policies, there have already been three migrant deaths in custody, including two at Krome. This negligence is unacceptable. I urge you to take immediate action to address this crisis humanely. Investigate and rectify the appalling conditions at Krome, and explore alternatives to prolonged detention that uphold human rights and dignity. The current situation is untenable and demands decisive reform to prevent further harm and fatalities. Treating detainees inhumanely violates our values as a nation; we must do better.
