Save Public Media

I am writing today to beg you to support public television and radio. The House’s devastating decision to rescind $1.1 Billion in previously approved funds is causing local stations (which are a lifeline for rural communities) to say they’ll have no choice but to shut down. Donald Trump knows that honest, independent journalism is a huge obstacle to authoritarianism. He wants a world in which the only news sources are Fox News and MAGA-owned social media platforms like Twitter/X. Shutting down public radio and television stations will eliminate some of the most trusted and reliable sources of news and information anywhere — opening the door for Trump to push even more rampant disinformation on the public. A solid majority of Americans reject authoritarianism and cuts to public media. I am begging you to protect the interests and views of your constituents. I am sure many of your colleagues in the Senate will cower to Trump, but I am begging you to not only vote to protect public media but to work to convince those colleagues to also do the right thing and protect the truth in our country. This is a pivotal moment and we MUST do everything we can to expose lies, to tell truth to power, and to act to protect the values of freedom, liberty, and democracy against those who twist those words for their own enrichment.
