Oppose the SAVE Act and Any Legislation That Restricts Voting Rights

Subject: Oppose the SAVE Act and Any Legislation That Restricts Voting Rights I urge you to oppose the so-called SAVE Act and any similar legislation that restricts voter registration or imposes unnecessary barriers to participation in our elections. The SAVE Act is presented as a measure to “secure” elections, but in practice it would disenfranchise millions of eligible voters—particularly seniors, students, women, veterans, and communities of color—by requiring documentary proof of citizenship that many lawful voters do not possess. It would also undermine proven systems like online, mail, and community-based registration that states have used safely and effectively for years. 1 Disenfranchises eligible voters.
It demands documentary proof of citizenship that millions of lawful voters—especially seniors, students, veterans, and low-income citizens—lack or cannot easily obtain. 2 Eliminates secure registration systems.
The Act would effectively abolish online, mail-in, and third-party registration drives—all secure and widely used methods that broaden participation. 3 Punishes election officials for good-faith actions.
It threatens criminal penalties for officials who mistakenly register eligible voters, discouraging fair and efficient administration. 4 Invites wrongful voter purges.
By requiring constant re-verification, it increases the risk that eligible voters will be wrongly removed—especially those who move frequently or have name changes. 5 Creates costly, unfunded mandates for states.
It forces major changes to registration systems without federal funding, overwhelming already strained local election offices. 6 Erodes trust in elections.
By framing participation as a security threat, it spreads the false narrative of widespread voter fraud—a claim repeatedly disproven by bipartisan election officials. Our democracy depends on accessible elections that encourage participation, not suspicion. The SAVE Act would make it harder for Americans to exercise their constitutional right to vote and easier for misinformation to undermine faith in the process. True election integrity is protected through accurate voter rolls, secure systems, and local oversight—not by denying citizens access to the ballot box. Please reject this legislation and any effort that restricts the right to vote.
