Impeach Hegseth: Congress Decides When We Go to War

I'm your constituent, and I urge you to support Rep. Thomas Massie's articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. If you serve in the House, vote no on any motion to table and yes on impeachment before the Thursday, Sept. 17 deadline. If you serve in the Senate, publicly back these articles now and vote to convict if they reach you. Rep. Massie is a Republican. These charges are based on the Constitution and federal law, not party affiliation. Congress decides when America goes to war. The House passed war powers resolutions in June and July calling for an end to the Iran conflict (Axios, Sept. 2026). Hegseth continued the war and ignored the withdrawal deadlines set by Congress (Reason, Sept. 2026). If a cabinet secretary treats the law as optional, Congress loses its most vital power. Hegseth's department also failed the people it should protect. On February 28, a U.S. strike hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in Iran. Commanders had been warned that the intelligence was outdated (CNN, July 2026). As many as 175 people died, including many children (Straight Arrow News, Sept. 2026). Strikes on suspected drug boats have killed over 200 people with no charges or trials, and cocaine still reaches our streets (Reason, May 2026). Our troops deserve leaders who follow the laws of war. Hegseth also tried to strip Sen. Mark Kelly, a combat veteran, of his rank and part of his pension. Kelly's offense was reminding troops they must refuse illegal orders. A federal judge ruled Hegseth acted unlawfully (CNN, Feb. 2026). Alexander Hamilton wrote that impeachment exists for "the abuse or violation of some public trust" (Federalist No. 65). That standard fits. Please stand up for the Constitution this week.
