I am writing to urge you to restore funding for the CDC, the FDA, state foodborne illness surveillance programs, and food safety research, and allow for the implementation of a comprehensive food traceability system.
Foodborne illness and recalls continue to show how urgently consumers need a stronger food safety system. Public health officials need updated tooling, staffing, labs, and access to tracking systems to identify outbreaks faster, trace contaminated foods sooner, and warn the public quickly.
The food we buy should be safe. And when it isn’t, consumers deserve clear answers fast.
Please fund the programs that help keep contaminated food off store shelves and protect families from getting sick.
