Protect Americans’ Well-Being: End Tariffs, Fix Immigration, Fund Health Care

Congress should be focused on the real crises facing Americans, not chasing divisive political theater. In 2025, health care costs hit record highs, with the average family paying over $24,000 a year in premiums and out-of-pocket expenses. Rural hospitals are closing, and millions remain uninsured or underinsured. The economy is slowing, with job growth softening and wages barely keeping pace with inflation. Meanwhile, women’s reproductive rights are being rolled back in state after state, forcing patients to travel hundreds of miles for care. These are the challenges your constituents face every day. They deserve leadership, not empty rhetoric.
Yet the latest budget bill pours billions into mass immigration enforcement and detention, while proven public health and family support programs get cut or flatlined. The administration calls it “security,” but the facts tell another story: immigration apprehensions this year are already down from their peak, while our health care system is in crisis and our families are struggling to keep the lights on. Even Robert Reich and other economists have warned that pouring money into fear-based enforcement instead of into people’s well-being is economic malpractice. When we invest in health care, education, and family stability, we strengthen our nation from within.
On top of this, tariffs are quietly squeezing American households. The so-called “protective” tariffs have functioned as a tax hike on everyday goods, raising prices on everything from groceries to home appliances. The U.S. International Trade Commission estimates that recent tariffs have added hundreds of dollars to the average family’s annual expenses without delivering lasting job gains. These costs fall hardest on working- and middle-class families already stretched thin. Tariffs do not punish foreign governments; they punish Americans.
It is time to put Americans’ well-being ahead of political posturing. Redirect funds from excessive immigration crackdowns into health care, economic stability, and realistic, humane immigration reform that keeps families together and respects the law. End tariffs that burden households and weaken our economy. Choose to govern with courage and compassion, not with fear and division. The country is watching, and history will remember the path you choose.
